Identifying and Explaining Experiences of Fear of Childbirth and Coping Strategies: A Qualitative Stud

    Get PDF
Fear of childbirth is a natural response that helps women prepare for childbirth. However, if fear is increased, it can lead to physical and emotional disabilities. This study aims to explain the experiences of fear of childbirth and, consequently, present a model for reducing such fears. Methods: A phenomenological approach was used in this study. The participants were selected from among primigravida (women who were pregnant for the first time) through purposeful sampling, and the data were collected through open and unstructured interviews. Besides, the collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s nine-stage method. Results: Different types of fear of childbirth identified in this study were harmful to maternal and neonatal health, normal childbirth, the feeling of inability, and cesarean section. Besides, the reasons behind fear of childbirth were inadequate awareness, lack of trust in medical staff, negative experiences from information sources, and the environment of the maternity center. Finally, the most important strategies to deal with the fear of childbirth were faith in God, feeling confident, receiving support, raising awareness, and positive thinking which were used to design the model. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that women's self-confidence plays a key role in decreasing fear of childbirth. Therefore, effective measures should be taken to increase women's sense of self-confidence to reduce their fear of childbirth

To overcome the conceptual ambiguity of Good Governance, based on the reinterpretation of the discourse 'from government to governance', this study uses analysis from Lange et al. (2013) on sustainable governance that focuses on political processes, institutional structures, and policies in the government of South Sulawesi as an industrial area of Eastern Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative-exploratory research method with a case study approach, using interactive analysis techniques through data collection, data reduction, data verification, data presentation, and conclusions to obtain the best findings. The results of this study find that sustainable governance in the South Sulawesi Regional Government applies a multi-dimensional approach that considers the political (political) process, government structure and policies that adequately capture the complexity of the phenomenon of governance (local governance) in Eastern Indonesia). With a good explanation of the concept with a sustainable governance model with complex multi-actor interactions/cooperation between local political elites, industry (private) civil society, as well as on the process of institutional structural interaction through what is called governance collaboration. This study contributes to recommending a sustainable governance model for local government with local wisdom of Bugis-Makassar culture in the value of siri na pacce (shame) as a value with high responsibility as a government in the South Sulawesi Government

Steering line waves at a dual metasurface for optical applications

Line waves are defined as confined edge modes propagating at the interface of dual electromagnetic metasurfaces that preserve mirror reflection symmetries. Previous works have theoretically and practically explored these waves, showing that they occur at microwave regimes and terahertz ranges. It is also demonstrated that line waves can happen when there is a symmetric resistance discontinuity from negative to positive values and a uniform surface reactance. Line waves are of tunable mode confinement, direction-dependent polarizations, and singular field enhancement. This study presents a graphene patch design and demonstrates that the line waves associated with this structure can travel in the optical domain. Our design consists of a graphene metasurface on an epsilon near zero (ENZ) substrate. While our approach considers both dual reactive impedances and homogenous reactive ones, we only concentrate on line wave utilization in a dual-impedance structure

The Relationship between Organizational Justice Perception and Self- efficacy in Staff of a Selected Educational Hospital: a case study

Background & Objectives: Hospitals are one of the important components in a health care system and have significant role in health of humans. Organizational justice shows the perception of fairness and equality in the workplace by staff and affects their behavior. This study examines the relationship between organizational justice perception and self-efficacy in employees of a selected hospital of Tabriz/ Iran. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive- analytic study performed on 156 employees of one of the selected hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Chen, Gully & Eden Self-efficacy questionnaire and Rego and Cunha organizational justice questionnaire were used as data collection tools. Data analysis was done through SPSS23 and using analytic statistical tests such as Spearman correlation, Chi-Square and regression. Results: There was a significant positive relationship between dimensions of organizational justice and self- efficacy (P<0.01). Also, based on the results of regression analysis, information justice was a stronger predictor of self- efficacy. Eventually, the elements of procedural, interactions and information justice could predict 14% of variations of self- efficacy. Conclusion: Since dimensions of organizational justice affect employees' self- efficacy, hospital managers should find appropriate strategies for improving organizational justice in order to increase self- efficacy and ultimately the performance of their employees. Evaluation of the Efficacy of Surgery for Treatment of Septal Perforation

    Get PDF
Background: The majority of septal perforations are caused by trauma either with or without infection. In most of the cases trauma is related to the surgery. Methods:   Twenty patients with nasal perforation who underwent surgery from 2008 to 2011were retrospectively evaluated. Three different surgical approaches were used: bilateral rotational advancement flap of nose floor with fascia through open rhinoplasty, bilateral rotational advancement flap of nose floor with using cartilage through closed method and inferior turbinate rotational flap. Results: After the surgery, all symptoms disappeared and examinations of healing regions in fifteen patients showed that the perforation was completely healed. In five patients, the perforation size reduced. Conclusion: Inferior turbinate flap in small perforations would be a logical method with ideal results. In cases with perforation size of one centimeter or larger and in more posterior types, the external method is recommended for a better exposure

    Graphene-Like Nanocomposites

After discovering graphene and its extraordinary intrinsic, other graphene-like nanomaterials (GLNs) became a topic of interest to many scientists of the time. Recently, GLNs, nanosheets of sp2-hybridized atoms arranged in a two-dimensional lattice with impressive thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties, has attracted both academic and industrial interest because it can produce dramatic improvements in properties at very low filler content. Many studies have been performed on GLNs with various applications, including boron nitride nanosheets, transition metal dichalcogenides, and other two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials. This rapid advance provides a strong appetence for further research on properties of GLNs, including mechanical, electrical and thermal properties and their potential applications in the nanocomposites industry

Helminth parasites fauna of the green toad, Bufo variabilis, Laurenti, 1768 (Anura: Bufonidae) from the Fars Province, Iran

The green toad, Bufo variabilis has been a common species of toads in Iran with a wide distribution in most provinces. The main goal of this study was to determine the helminth parasite fauna of B. variabilis in southwest of Iran. Among 30 toads inspected for helminth infection from different sites, 100% harbored one or more parasite species. Some toads were afflicted by intestinal obstruction, due to the infection with a large number of cestodes. Twenty-eight cases (93%) had mixed infection with cestodes (in intestine) and nematodes (in lung). Also, a toad was infected with a single monogenean parasite in its urinary bladder. The identified helminth parasites were monogenean, Polystoma viridis; cestode, Nematotaenia dispar and a species of nematode, Rhabdias ranae. This study reports for the first time the presence of nematode species R. ranae in B. variabilis in Iran
